Big Lake Contest Rules
Eligibility: Open to any teams that agree to abide by Michigan D.N.R. regulations and contest rules. Contestants must be registered by 9:00 PM the Thursday before the contest. Boat owner must be a member of the Grand Rapids Chapter Michigan Steelheaders.
Entry Fees: Entry fee shall be $20.00 per boat, or $5.00 per person fishing from shore of pier, except $50.00 per boat for May Big Lake Contest, and $50.00 per boat for Big Lake Memorial Contest. If the contest is cancelled, entry fees will be honored at the next alternate date, as decided by the contest committee.
Scoring: Minimum length will be 20" for weigh in. Total weight of five fish maimum will decide the winner.
Date and Hours: The conest will be held as posted. Contest fishing will befin at 6:00 AM and End at Noon. In the event the contest must be cancelled, the alternate date will be decided by the contest committee.
Radio: Radio traffic between contestants will be unrestricted. Participants are urged to share fighing information with fellow contestants. The official contest channel will be 69.
Weigh in: Boars will proceed immediately to the weigh in station as decided by the chairman at the conclusion of the fishing period or when the maximum number of fish are caught. Final weigh in will be by 2:00 PM on the day of the contest.
Canellation: The contest committee reserves the right to delay or cancel the contest if their judgement conditions could be dangerous to persons or property. Final determination will be made by the contest chairman. Contestants should continually monitor channel 69 for changes effecting the contest hours. If a minimum or 3 hours is fished, the contest will be considered complete and prizes awarded.
General: A maximum of five (5) fish per boat may be weighed in. Only these five fish will be considered for scoring all parts of the contest. A six(6) rod limit per boar or a two (2) rod limit per individual from shore or pier will be in effect. Any contoversies or disputes arising from the contest shall be resolved at a regular Grand Rapids Sheelheaders Board Meeting, not a general membership meeting.
Prizes: Prizes and trophies (and gift certificates for 1, 2, 3 at the Grand Haven contest only) will bwe awarded for the highest weight of the five fish maximum. One prize will also be awarded for the heaviest salmon and trout offically weighed in. One cash prize per boar at Grand Haven. Other contests 1, 2, 3 place cash prize. One prize per boat. Prize payouts as follows - 50% First, 20% second, 10% third, heaviest salmon, heaviest trout. Prize money determined from entry fee.
